I was hesitant to write this article because as a wedding planner, I don’t want to sound biased or to come across like a sales pitch. BUT after hearing a horror story from a recent wedding without a planner and having a potential client decide not to hire a wedding planner at all and “trust the DJ to manage everything.” I realized that it is necessary to inform couples on the IMPORTANCE OF A WEDDING PLANNER!
Last weekend a past bride met with me to look over photos, one thing she kept saying was how did the photographer know I was coming out the door, how did he know the guys were there? I just kept saying ‘I told him to be there, it’s my job’. This led her to recount a wedding she attended (without a planner) where the ceremony started 45 minutes late. Following the ceremony the reception was at a different location, so everyone drove to the reception and waited for the happy couple. After a bit they opened the food line and people started to eat, by 8:45 P.M. she left with her mother, as they didn’t want to wait any long for the bride and groom. If they had a wedding planner, I would like to believe this would never have happened.
Planning a wedding takes a lot of time, even more if you do everything yourself or you both work, so don’t let it take over your life, enjoy the process. Here are 10 reasons to hire a planner to work with you:
Minimizes stress ~ And maximizes fun, hiring a planner ensures that you have a worry free and stress free day, thus allowing you and your family to be a guest at your own event.
Saves time ~ Will save you time and energy by researching vendors, taking care of the many details and sometimes allowing you to be in two places at once.
Saves money ~ A planner is experienced in helping set a budget that is realistic and finding vendors that fit within that budget.
Mediator ~ A good planner serves as a buffer in tricky relational situations and is a safe neutral person to point to for direction.
Implementation ~ Ensures your vision is a reality while you are getting ready, and knows how to handle those that think they know what the bride wants when they really don’t. (oh, do we have stories!!)
Advice ~ A planner will know wedding etiquette, but also what really works from experiencing many other weddings.
Point of contact ~ Acts as the go to person, as a wedding will consist of multiple vendors and family members asking questions throughout the process.
Timeline ~ Detailed itineraries are created to keep vendors, family, wedding party and the couple on time during the planning, rehearsal and the entire wedding day to ensure everything goes off on time.
Crisis Management ~ Knows how to handle all unforeseen circumstances; a planner usually has seen it all and can handle the situation before it becomes a crisis.
Professional help ~ Using a wedding planner means you’re in control, but you have a professional working on your behalf to do the legwork, reduce your stress and ensure every detail is your kind of perfect.
